When the pot is getting hotter or you're only treading water
I'll be a life boat and ferry you home
Fuck your fair-weather friends I'll be there till the end
Drinking whisky and pissing on their bones
When the storm clouds are gathered or you're being called to battle
I'll go toe to toe defending your name
Slings and arrows can clatter, but they don't fucking matter
We're not blood but we're family all the same
When the seas are getting rougher, seems like times are getting tougher
I won't let you carry that damn weight alone
Fuck your fair weather friends, I'll be there till the end
Drinking whisky and pissing on their bones
Some Days you Win, Some days you lose
Some days it's wall to wall abuse
Some days you win, some days you lose
But I've got your back, I promise you

Watching em twist in the wind, in a cycle of perpetual spin
Threats shouted from the hole they dug themselves shilling for
The chickenhawk pretend economist
Armed with a fiction and a chip, on the shoulder and a quivering lip
Teen angst hyperbole, for the way it used to be
The story of the torch and the bridge
A decade denying evidence, of environment and economic sense
Til the man in the blue suit turned tail and flew the coop
And left his stooges holding the cheque
A 180 degree, about face hypocrisy, on display for all sapient to see
In unhinged apoplexy
The pride before the fall that was wholly self inflicted
Cause matchsticks and kerosene weren't meant for building bridges
Like old dogs and new tricks, progress meets resistance
But economies and stupid can't be fixed, in an instant

Wild Mountain Thyme

The summer time has come, and the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme, grows around the blooming heather
I will build my love a bower, by yon cool crystal fountain
Round it I will pile, wild flowers of the mountain
I will range thru the wild, and the deep glen so dreamy
And return with their spoils, to the bower of my deary
Will ya go lassie go, and we'll all go together
To pick wild mountain thyme, all around the blooming heather

In a neat little town they call Nelson, apprenticed in trade I was bound
And many an hour of sweet happiness I spent in that neat mountain town
Tim sad misfortune befell me, and caused me to stray from the land
Far away from my friends and relations, to follow the black velvet band
As I was out strolling down Baker, with no intention of staying out too long
I met a lovely wee Kootenay girl, as she came skipping along
A watch she pinched from a stranger, and slipped it right into my hand
On the very first night that I met her, bad luck from the Black Velvet Band
Before judge and jury next morning, I was compelled to appear
A gentleman claimed his time pice, and the case against us was clear
A seven year sentence he gave me, I was going to Van Dieman's Land
Far away from my friends and relations, to follow the Black Velvet Band
So come all you jolly young fellows, I'll have you take warning from me
Whenever you're out on the liquor, beware of the pretty Colleen
She'll fill you with whisky and porter, until you're not able to stand
And the very next thing that you know, you've landed in Van Dieman's Land
Her eyes they shone like a diamond
You'd think she was queen of the land
And her hair hung over her shoulders
Tied up in a Black Velvet Band

When the boss wants a fight, he don't want to fight fair
He'll trample your rights and take more than his share
He'll hand back a fraction of the wealth you create
And expect your thanks for the scraps from his plate
When the boss wants a deal to extract more profit
By offshoring jobs, unions march to stop it
With every trade deal they swear we'll all get rich
But every trade deal is a bait and switch
And we're not taking this lying down
United we'll stand our ground
An injury to one is an injury to all
But they can't trample on us when the union's marching tall
With our bodies on the gears their machine won't work at all
Stop an injury to one down at your union hall

To Your Name

To those we lost far to early
And to those who left us in their time
The friendship and love that you shared with us
Is a light that always shines
There's still a space, left by your passing
I know nothing can fill
But your memory's always with me
I love you and I always will
To those who gave more than they ever
Asked for in return
And to my family, to your name forever
I've got tattoos in my skin for you
There's still a space, left by your passing
I know nothing can fill
But your memory's always with me
I love you and I always will
To your name, we raise a glass
Raise our voice and sing one to remember
To your name, we raise a glass
To the miles that we walked together
